Yoga Therapy is an ancient system of holistic healing, integrating body, mind and spirit. Yoga Therapy is linked to the Ayurvedic system of health care.

The aim of Yoga Therapy is to provide support and guidance to an individual who would like to use the tools of yoga to improve their health and wellbeing, or support their health and wellbeing, when living with a long-term health condition. The Therapist works on a 1:1 basis to meet the specific needs of the individual.
The tools of yoga include asana (postures and movement), pranayama (breathing techniques), kriyas (cleansing practices), meditation, visualisation, mantra, chanting and relaxation. Diet and lifestyle play an important role within yoga therapy. Yoga Therapy can be restorative, healing, preventative or help to maintain optimal general health & wellbeing. It is a self-empowering process that helps a person to move towards living their full potential. Yoga is a healing journey that aims to restore balance to the whole person. There are different approaches to yoga therapy that can be implemented at any stage in life and can support variations in capability. Yoga Therapy can be adapted and modified to fit the changing needs of the individual.
The effects of yoga are cumulative and benefits increase with a regular, sustained practice. The Yoga Therapist supports this process through the 1:1 therapeutic relationship with the yoga student.

The benefits of yoga include improved flexibility, stamina, balance and strength. Improves posture. Rejuvenates, decreases tension, calms the mind, improves focus and concentration, reduces stress and promotes a positive attitude to life.
A yoga session will involve a detailed consultation to establish individual needs.
I then support a person to develop a suitable practice that can be worked on at home. A periodic review is recommended to monitor progress and to allow for any modifications that may be required.
